District's Chief Procurement Officer Recognized by National Association

(Washington, DC) Mayor Anthony A. Williams announced that the National Contract Management Association has recognized the Government of the District of Columbia Chief Procurement Officer, Jacques "Jack" Abadie, III, whom he appointed in 2001, as an NCMA Fellow. The National Contract Management Association, with a membership of 20,000, initiated the Fellows Program in 1967, and has made only 700 awards.

NCMA was formed in 1959 to foster professional growth and educational advancement and is the preeminent source of professional development for the practice of contract management.

NCMA Fellows have demonstrated accomplishments in academic and professional training, significant work experience in the field, management experience, NCMA volunteer service, authorship, public speaking, teaching, and awards.

Present when the Mayor made the announcement, Neal Couture, the Executive Director of the National Contract Management Association, said "Mayor Williams you have a top notch professional leading your procurement office". Jack Abadie, III, as the Chief Procurement Officer for the Government of the District of Columbia, is responsible for procuring $1.8 billion in goods and services for the 58 separate agencies that report to the Mayor.
